ARSENAL will be without Jack Wilshere for their fixtures against Chelsea and West Ham after his appeal against a two game ban for swearing at Manchester City fans was rejected by the Football Association.
Wilshere had accepted
the charge of making an 'offensive and/or insulting and/or abusive
gesture' to City fans but appealed the punishment saying it was too
harsh.
However, the panel disagreed with the Arsenal
midfielder's complaints and he will now miss Monday's clash at the
Emirates against Chelsea and the Gunners's trip to face West Ham on
Boxing day.
The England midfielder was caught giving
the middle finger to home fans after an altercation following a
contested corner at the Etihad during the Gunners' 6-3 humbling last
week.
Greg Dyke, chairman of the FA said earlier today that he would have to learn to cope with abuse from the stands.
On
a statement on their official site, the FA said: "Arsenal’s Jack
Wilshere has been suspended for two matches by an Independent Regulatory
Commission.
"Wilshere was charged by The FA with
making an offensive and/or insulting and/or abusive gesture during the
fixture between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on
Saturday 14 December. The incident was not seen by match officials but
was caught on video.
"Whilst admitting the charge,
Wilshere claimed the standard sanction for this offence was clearly
excessive. The Commission rejected this claim and the two match
suspension will commence with immediate effect."
