Manchester United star Wilfred Zaha took to Twitter yesterday to hit out at claims he has been dating boss David Moyes’ teenage daughter.
Rumours on social media sites and club message boards suggested the winger’s prolonged absence from the side was due to an alleged affair with 19-year-old Lauren Moyes.
The 21-year-old has played just two games this season, the last in their 4-0 League Cup victory over Norwich City on October 29, despite the club spending £15million on him.
Zaha has been linked to pretty Lauren for months and in October posted a simple message on Twitter saying “Silly rumours”, which appeared to be a denial of any relationship.
But yesterday he went a step further by using the site to quash speculation about his love life and relationship with his new manager.
He wrote: “I’ve never dated or even met David Moyes’s daughter so that isn’t the reason for my absence in games.
“I would like to stop all these false accusations. I will play for Manchester United when my manager feels I’m ready.”
However, within an hour of protesting his innocence, the two tweets had been deleted from his profile.
